- The biggest species of squirrel is the Indian giant squirrel, which can grow up to an impressive 1 m (36 inches) long.
- The smallest is the tiny African pygmy squirrel which is a minute 7-13cm (2.8-5 inches).
- Squirrels have four front teeth that grow continuously throughout their lives, at a rate of about six inches (15 cm) per year.
- Tree squirrels are known to dig fake holes to fool onlookers and throw off thieves—a move known as “deceptive caching.”
