- Hummingbirds are birds native only to the Americas, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.
- They are called hummingbirds because of the humming sound they create when beating their wings.
- There are over 360 species of hummingbirds, of which 28 species are listed as endangered or critically endangered.
