Moose – 5 Interesting facts
- Alces alces is called a “moose” in North American English, but an “elk” in British English.
- Moose are browsers with a huge appetite and will consume both terrestrial and aquatic vegetation.
- Moose are the largest of all the deer species in the world. They can grow to be 5 to 6.5 feet from hooves to shoulders. This does not include a raised head or antlers.
- Only the male Moose has horns which are used for fighting predators and for defending their territory from other males.
- Despite their huge size and weight, Moose are good swimmers.
