Leaf-Cutter Ants

The Leaf-Cutter Ants are Underground Farmers

The Leaf-Cutter Ants are part of a farming colony, that grows fungus in special sections of the underground nest. The fungus is grown to feed the colony of ants. The specialized fungus needs decaying plant materials to grow. So the ants go out into the rainforest, cut chunks of leaves, return to colony, feed the fungus so it will grow.
